Lockheed U-2S Dragon Lady Retirement

The full U-2S fleet retirement is slated for fiscal year 2026 (which runs from October 2025 to September 2026), but Congress has intervened to slow the process. In the FY2026 Defense Appropriations Bill, lawmakers prohibited the divestment of more than eight U-2s, allocating $55 million for ongoing maintenance to extend the program's life potentially into FY2027.

U.S. Military Aircraft Changes - Fiscal Year 2026

The information presented on this page has been extracted from the FY 2026 Force Structure Changes document which was submitted for Congressional approval. This document, drafted in August 2025, puts forward a proposed list of aircraft which the DoW wishes to reduce or retire in the coming year. Congress always has the ultimate say on military spending and the yearly proposed 'wish lists' are often be amended following scrutiny and consideration by the House & Senate Armed Services Committees.
