Previous Unit: 522ndFS/27thTFW , Cannon AFB, NM.I was Crew Chief on this Aircraft Prior to and during Desert Storm & Operation Provide Comfort.This Aircraft also made History with dropping the first GBU-28's. When this article came out it was still showing assigned to another squardron: 70-2 387 Involved in Operation EL DORADO CANYON callsign LUJAC 23. This aircraft from the 495 TFS/48 TFW released GBU-28 Paveway III "Deep Throat" laser guided bomb and a direct hit on a bunker at Taji Air Base Iraq on 27 February 1991 and after the lead aircraft, 70-2391 missed.. (Jim Rotramel) The GBU-28 is a 5000lbs class bomb constructed from a 15 inch howitzer barrel with the nose and tail attachments welded to take the standard GBU-27 Pave Way III computer control group and aerofoil section. Only four days earlier, the GBU-28 was released for the first time.
