HC-130P 64-1860 "The Viking" deployed for the last time from Mar-Aug 2014 to Djibouti Africa. I was the Navigator on one of it's deployed crews for that deployment. The Viking was the first plane I flew across the ocean, first plane I flew in combat, first plane I flew on a rescue, and holds a special place in my heart.

I flew The Viking's last combat mission, which was a rescue mission. The mission was to rescue an aircrew who had crashed on the runway in an undisclosed location while resupplying a US SOF team. The Viking and her crew launched off alert, planned the mission in flight as the mission was executed, performed an assault landing to a dirt road next to the runway on which the crash occurred, rescued the crew, and returned to base.
