I had the pleasure of being assigned as crew chief on this aircraft for over two years. I was stationed at George AFB in Victorville, Ca. from 1975-1979. We were attached to the 35thTFW, 35 OMS. Our primary role was target range support, however, we did get involved with the occasional search and rescue. This aircraft also participated in the joint service exercises at Ft.Irwin, Barstow,Ca.. As I recall, while stripping the airframe for a new paint job, I discovered the distinguished green hornet on the tail boom. Of course it had been painted over many times, and we did not remove it then, we painted over it for preservation.
