I flew this aircraft and others (56-3679 is the only other number I can remember). There were a total of 5 T-Birds based at Eielson AFB, AK during the period, March 74 - Sept 76 while I was stationed there as a pilot in the 5010th Combat Support Group. Our mission was radar quality control, target/intercep tor training for the weapons controllers at the radar sites and for the F-4Es stationed at Elmendorf with TDY at Eielson, and ground attack training for the Army and the AF forward air controllers. During my 2 1/2 years at Eielson, I flew the T-Birds for about 1,000 hours. My name and the name of my crew chief, Sgt. Freddy Potter, were painted on the left side below the pilot's seat.
