161435 served as the squadron's "show bird" from late 2001 until March 2003, and then became Victory 110. While the squadron (VF-103) was under the command of CDR Gary Williams in 2002, 161435 (along with VF-103's other a/c) wore the coveted SECDEF PHOENIX award on the tails of the a/c. The Secretary of Defense Phoenix award, is earned by the top military unit in the entire US Armed Forces. VF-103 was the first and last F-14 squadron to win the SECDEF.
