#1 CAPT Chuck Henry USN chuck.henry@navy.mil  2006-02-02 00:00
This airplace belonged to VF-302 at NAS Miramar which was one of two Reserve Tomcat squadrons stationed there. I was the maintenance officer of the squadron at the time I was the one responsible for the paint scheme. This is a one of a kind paint job and the only one in the squadron with these markings. All other Reserve Tomcats at Miramar at the time had a dull grey paint scheme with no color. There is a story behind the paint job but too involved for this short note. The airplane made it's last carrier landing on the USS NIMITZ CVN 68 in August of 1990. It was flown to AMARC by CDR Vance "Star" Parker in early 1991. Star was a former Blue Angel and was on staff duty at Miramar at the time and was lucky to fly it's last mission. Tradition had one aircraft per squadron painted in glossy squadron colors and that was usually assigned to CAG's plane which is always a/c 200. This was the exception... VF-302 and VF-301 were two Reserve Tomcat squadrons at Miramar and they both decommisioned in 1994.
