I was an Aviation Ordnancman with VA 115, This A6E was one of the aircraft used for the NTPI nuclear loading drills and exams. Also this A6E was the one which almost blew two of over the side when the ship and airwing deployed in the Indian Ocean for the 111 days at sea period in the mid 1980s' finally this aircraft was one of two which preformed a "high loft" 2000 lbs bomb drop for the Prince of Tailand the "high loft drop is preformed when the airacrft is loaded with two 2000 lbs bombs, the plane dives from a very high altitude at the surface of the sea, which builds up a high airspeed. The pilot and b/n have the bomb computer active the pilot pulls up about 1000 ft off the surface of the sea and the computer "bunches" the 2000 lbs off at the point of the greatest centrifitcal force thereby throwing the 4000 lbs of high explosive miles and miles ahead the ship which results in very large explosion upon impact with the sea or target. I would love to obtain a photo of 505 for my book. AO2 Richards
