I flew C-1A Trader Bureau No 146050 for VR-30 at NAS Alameda from 1973 into 1976. It was then transferred to the newly commissioned VRC-30 at NAS North Island in 1978 when VR-30 was decommissioned. I both flew and maintained this bird as an enlisted Flight Crew Plane Captain. We would fly our C-1's to NAS North Island or NAS Corpus Christy on deployment for a minimum of two weeks at a time. During deployment, we supported the carriers by flying to and from the ship carrying mail, supplies and personnel (the personnel were not always alive). One of the most common pieces of cargo was the inflatable boot used to seal the gap left by the moveable wing on the F-14 Tomcat.
